Sandersville DJJ Business Manager Charged with Theft
Crime

A business manager at the Sandersville Regional Youth Detention center has been arrested and charged with 21 counts of felony theft.

That's according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice.

The release says James Sanders, the Administrative Operations Coordinator for the Washington County facility, was arrested Monday afternoon by Baldwin County Sheriff's deputies.

DJJ Commissioner Avery D. Niles says Sanders was already on suspension after a discrepancy in sales deposits turned up during an audit.

Sanders is accused of withdrawing cash illegally from the agency meal account, and replacing it with personal checks.

According to DJJ, a bounced check led to Sanders' arrest. Investigators found he'd allegedly deposited more than $2,000 in his own bank account.
