Local Volunteer Firefighters Need Your Vote to Win Grant

Local Volunteer Firefighters Need Your Vote to Win Grant

All-volunteer Deepstep Fire Department in Washington County needs your help.

They're in the running to win a grant contest from State Farm Insurance, but they need your Facebook vote.

The grant would land the fire department new equipment such as a four-wheel drive SUV for first responders and rescue calls. That'd be a $25,000 grant.

Forty out of 200 competitors will win a grant.

Sandersville Native Pens Book on Georgia's Rural Population Rise and Fall

Sandersville Native Pens Book on Georgia's Rural Population Rise and Fall

Sandersville physician and native William Rawlings recently penned a book exploring the rise and fall of twentieth-century Georgia's rural population.

Called "A Killing on Ring Jaw Bluff: The Great Recession and the Death of Small Town Georgia," the book recounts Georgia's rural population as told through Charles Graves Rawlings, according to a Mercer University Press news release.

"This is the story of rural Georgia that foreshadowed our own day, our own story."

This is Rawlings sixth book.

Rawlings has written five other novels set in the rural South.

Join Rawling for a book signing at Geo's Quarters in Sandersville on April 25 from 4-7 p.m.
