Jimmy Carter campaigns for grandson, Nunn in Sandersville

With one week to go until Election Day, former President Jimmy Carter traveled to Sandersville to campaign for his grandson, Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Jason Carter.

Carter arrived at the Country Buffet in downtown Sandersville about 4 p.m. where about 200 people packed into the restaurant to hear Carter and other prominent officials plug the candidacies of Jason Carter and Michelle Nunn, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate.

Neither Nunn nor Jason Carter attended the event. But in addition to the former president, Jason Carter's mother and his children attended the event. Nunn's husband, Ron Martin, and mother, Colleen Nunn, also attended the event.

While taking a few jabs and Republican candidates, the Democrats stressed the ability of both candidates to reach across party lines to accomplish things that would benefit all Georgians. They also stressed the need for Democrats to get the polls and urge their friends and relatives to vote as well.

Nunn meets Republican David Perdue in the Nov. 4 general election., Jason Carter faces Nathan Deal, the incumbent Republican governor.
