Investigators Look For 'Ghost' In Sandersville | News

Ghost hunters from the South Carolina-based Lost Souls Paranormal came the Old Jail Museum in Sandersville to investigate any paranormal activity there.

A group of about 10 paranormal investigators spent Saturday night in the building, armed with K-2 meters that measure electronic magnetic fields, voice recorders, motion sensors, and cameras to help them detect any spirits.

Some staff at the Old Jail Museum said that they have had experiences with a ghost called Essie.

"I went upstairs to Essie's room and the victrola is by the door and I saw it was spinning and it was no air-conditioning no windows up there, no draft, so I stopped it," said Calla Brookins of Sandersville.  "I continued to look around the room and I turned back around to look at it and it started spinning again. "

Essie died from injuries she got when her dress caught on fire while she was sitting near her fireplace. She died at just 16-years-old in 1905.

13WMAZ went with Lost Souls Paranormal into three rooms inside the building: Essie's Room, Miss Elizabeth's room, and a women's inmate cell.

While inside Essie's room, the motion sensors went on and off a few times, but investigators said that could have been movement by anyone of us in the room.

Later on, we went inside a cell, where Nicolle Gredzky, one of the investigators said she felt something tug at her pony tail.

"It was definitely a weird sensation umm, but. Umm you know it was just something that you never know what to expect and you should always expect the unexpected," said Gredzky.

We also checked out what was filmed once we left Essie's room and the camera caught an orb move just moments after we left. But that may not be a smoking gun for paranormal activity.

"Orbs again are just a big question for the paranormal field, a lot of the people believe it's a ball energy," said Steven Hicks, of Lost Souls Paranormal. "But it could be debunked between bugs, dust anything like that."

After Saturday, they will continue to pour over footage and other recordings and give a full report to the Washing County Historical Society in two weeks.
