Williford Awarded Sterrett Nursing Scholarship

SANDERSVILLE, GA - The OFTC Foundation - North, Inc., has awarded the 2012-2013 Sterrett Nursing Scholarship for North Campus to Whitney Harris Williford of Bartow, Georgia.

Dr. John H. Sterrett and his wife, Linda Gray Sterrett, established the $500 scholarship in June of 2005. The scholarship is awarded annually to two deserving student in the Practical Nursing program  - one at the College’s North Campus in Sandersville and one at the Jefferson County Center in Louisville.

State Senator David Lucas Sworn into Office

 

State Senator David Lucas (D-Macon) was officially sworn into office to represent the 26th District yesterday at the state Capitol.  Sen. Lucas will serve Hancock, Twiggs, Washington and Wilkinson counties along with portions of Bibb, Houston and Jones counties.

“It is an honor to once again be at the State Capitol serving the people of Central Georgia,” said Sen. Lucas.  “I am excited to be back under the Gold Dome and look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to pass smart and meaningful legislation this session.”

Prior to being elected to the Senate, Sen. Lucas served in the Georgia State House of Representatives from 1974 to 2011.  While in the House, Sen. Lucas sponsored legislation allowing for the first African-Americans to serve on City Council (HB 1024), as County Commissioner (HB 985) and on the Industrial Authority (HB 533).

Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) is seeking entries from local students for Georgia's Annual Manufacturing Appreciation Week Design Competition for elementary through high school students. Students from across Georgia will submit artwork depicting the importance of manufacturing to their lives and communities. The contest includes three categories:

Today is my first day in the office for 2013. I intentionally took time off over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays to step back from work, enjoy my family and clear my head. Now I’m back and ready to hit the ground running! How about you?

 

In the past I’ve never been much of a believer in writing down my goals or making them for that matter. It all seemed a little woo-woo and out there. However in 2012 I worked with a wonderful organizer and business coach Paris Love (www.parisloveinstitute.com) who convinced me of the importance of setting goals.

Sandersville Railroad VP to Speak at Georgia College Commencement

 

On Dec. 8, 2012, about 250 undergraduate and graduate students will receive their degrees from Georgia College.

This ceremony marks the first December commencement since 2005.

Ben Tarbutton III, Chair of the Board of Regents and Assistant Vice President of the Sandersville Railroad Company will be the keynote speaker.

The processional begins at 12:45 p.m., and commencement at 1:00 p.m. at Centennial Center, which is located at 251 South Clark Street, Milledgeville, Ga. For those who cannot attend, commencement will also be broadcast live at www.gcsu.edu.

Members of the news media who wish to attend the ceremony should contact the University Communications Office for credentials no later than Friday, Dec. 7. 

Allisha Gray Signs with UNC

Allisha Gray Signs with UNC

Washington County High School senior Allisha Gray sign her national letter of intent to attend and play basketball for the University of North Carolina Nov. 15.  The Tar Heels are getting a very special player that has scored over 2,400 career points in just three years and has orchestrated two GHSA AAA state championship appearances in the past two years, winning the title in 2011.  On top of many region player of the year and all-state honors, she was also named the Gatorade Player of the Year last year. Allisha is the daughter of Allen and Annie Gray of Sandersville.
