Washington County January Unemployment Rate

Washington County January Unemployment Rate

Washington County's unemployment rate for January was 12 percent, the Georgia Department of Labor news release says.

That's compared to metro Macon's 9.9 percent unemployment rate for January.

But that's still less than a year ago, at 10.5 percent.

Sam Hall with the Georgia Department of Labor says the increases should not be cause for concern because seasonal workers leaving temporary holiday jobs play a major factor in the variation.

He says the important thing is the rate is lower than it was last year.

OFTC North Campus Awarded Operation Round Up Grant

SANDERSVILLE, GA - Washington Electric Foundation's Operation Round Up program awarded a $7,500 grant to Oconee Fall Line Technical College’s North Campus foundation, OFTC Foundation – North, Inc., for the benefit of its Lending Library.

"With so many students going back to school in hopes of finding a good job opportunity," commented Kathy Aaron, OFTC Executive Director of Institutional Advancement for North Campus, "the need for assistance is great. This grant will allow us to help even more people in each of the communities that our North Campus serves."

While Georgia's financial aid programs offer students a way to earn their certificate, diploma or degree at a low cost, many students still struggle with the cost of books. OFTC North Campus’ Lending Library supports many of those students by loaning class textbooks for the semester.
