 General Election for the City of Sandersville will be held on November 8, 2011 for the offices of Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem, Council Member District #1, Council Member District # 2, Council Member District #3 and Council Member District # 4.

 

Qualifying for Mayor:

Mayor Pro Tem:         

Tennille, Washington Co. Receive Community Improvement Grants

The City of Tennille received a community development block grant for $500,000 worth of water improvements.

That's according to a news release from Governor Deal's office.

Washington County received $500,000 for drainage and street improvements.

Governor Deal announced Friday that more than $38.8 million in federal assistance from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development was awarded to the state's Community Development Block Program.

The CDBG program is administered by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), which uses funds allocated through HUD to support local initiatives that focus on improving living conditions and economic opportunities, the release says.

Public Hearing on Plant Washington

 

The EPD will be conducting a hearing relating to certain issues associated with Plant Washington's air permit this Thursday evening, August 18th. This hearing will help get us one step closer to making Plant Washington a reality but, as in previous hearings, we need your support and participation to ensure that proponents of the project are heard from. We know the opposition will be there to voice their objections so, if at all possible on your part, please set aside time on Thursday evening to attend the hearing and let your voices be heard.

 

Governor's Workforce Development Town Hall Comes to Sandersville

 

The Governor’s Office of Workforce Development will host The Governor’s Workforce Development Town Hall on Soft Skills in Education.

That's according to a news release.

This series of 31 public town hall meetings allows Georgians, most importantly our students, parents, business leaders, and Georgia’s professional educators, to be a part of the establishment of a statewide certification in soft skills such as punctuality, ability to learn, appropriate business attire, and ability to work as a team for Georgia’s schools.

The Sandersville town hall meeting takes place October 13 at 6:30 p.m.  at Oconee Fall Line Technical College.

Governor Deal signed House Bill 186 into law on May 13, 2011. This important legislation authorizes The Governor’s Office of Workforce Development to establish certification in soft skills such as punctuality, ability to learn, appropriate business attire, and ability to work as a team. 

Be Sure to Vote in the Georgia License Plate Contest

Voting reopened today for the Georgia License Plate design contest.

You can vote for one of the eight designs.

Voting ends August 8, 2011 at 3 p.m.

The winning license plate was to be announced Friday, July 15, but there was confusion surrounding the "in God we trust" label on some of the designs.

House Democrats Host Rural Reappointment Hearings

 

A redistricting meeting takes place in Milledgeville Thursday evening.

 

This meeting is sponsored by the State Caucus and the Young Democrats of Georgia. This is a state level meeting where citizens will be able to ask questions, make comments and place their thoughts and concerns on record.
