Public invited to meeting about proposed property tax increase

You're encouraged to voice your opinion about a proposed property tax increase in Washington County.

According to a notice, the proposed tax increase is 11.16%, an increase of 1.769 mills.

You can attend one of three meetings:

  • July 31, at 11:30 a.m.
  • July 31, at 6 p.m.
  • August 7, 5 p.m.

Those meetings are the Washington County Board of Education at 501 Industrial Drive in Sandersville.

If your home is $100,000 as fair market value, then the property tax increase would cost you $170 more in annual property taxes..

Washington County High School Athletic Director Larry Bates and head coach Joel Ingram released the 2014-2015 schedule for the Golden Hawks football season. A scrimmage will be played in the House of Pain vs Dublin August 15 at 7:30. The regular season schedule is:

August 29 vs Thomson in the House of Pain

Sept 5 vs Mary Persons in the House of Pain

Sept 19 vs Veterans in Warner Robins

Sept 26 vs Glenn Hills in the House of Pain*
