GDOT Focuses on Local Motorists for Work Zone Safety Week

 

(WXIA) -- Work Zone Safety Week is underway, and Georgia's Department of Transportation, the Governor's Office of Highway Safety and the Federal Highway Administration are emphasizing the need for Georgia motorists to use caution when travelling on all roads throughout the state.

During Work Zone Safety Week, highway departments, law enforcement and private contractors are reminding drivers that dangers can come from failure to be careful when behind the wheel, especially in work zones where heavy equipment is often used close to travel lanes.

From Monday through Thursday, the Department of Transportation has roadwork planned on various state routes in Washington County, depending on weather.

Where to be cautious: 

  • SR 88, between miles 0-10, one lane closed for shoulder clipping
  • SR 24, miles 15-22, one lane closed
  • SR 231, miles 3-20.4, roadway shoulder repair

This week you can expect road work on various highways in Washington County.

Here's what you need to know:

  • State Route 24: around mile marker 12.5 you can expect shoulder work to reclaim the right of way.
  • SR 15, work to reclaim the right of way around mile marker 10
  • SR 24, a lane will be closed from mile marker 0-22 for shoulder clipping
  • SR 88, one lane closed for shoulder clipping from mile markers 0-10.
  • SR 231, shoulder maintenance and repair between miles 3-20.4
  • SR 102, one lane closed while crews seal minor cracks in the road from mile markers 1-2.
